I think it is interesting that when it comes to Women's Health - they're always trying to do things that are essentially protecting superficial characteristics.

No periods, increase your breast size, increase your libido, or your metabolism. Are these really the top priorities for women when it comes to their health?

    Megidoloan

I hate pulling this line, but I have to wonder if you're a man. Periods can be absolutely debilitating. I went on the Depo shot after YEARS of heavy (think changing a pad every hour or two) bleeding EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. Not once a month. Every.single.day. I had severe anemia and very low blood pressure as a result of the constant blood loss. Numerous doctors couldn't figure out what was causing me to bleed continuously. My mother experiences the same thing, as well, so I wonder if it's a genetic abnormality.

Nevermind the cramps that would leave me almost bedridden.

I have repeatedly asked for a uterine ablation or hysterectomy that would put a permanent end to this misery and would eliminate any risks from the shot or hormonal birth control, but I've been turned away every single time because "I'm too young" (I'm almost 29) and even though I've never wanted kids, they're CONVINCED that I'll change my mind and become a breeding machine some day.

Periods aren't just a little inconvenience that women want to get rid of. They can have serious health and mental consequences, and until doctors learn that women are more than just potential incubators (any doctor denying a woman such a procedure based on their own personal beliefs should be stripped of their license, IMO), these risky medications will be necessities.

Nope, I'm a chick with killer cramps when I get my period.

With all due respect fellow chick-a-dee: I think the symptoms associated with a woman's cycle are a normal distribution curve.

A few women have severe symptoms (like yourself), a few have no symptoms, and the vast majority have moderate symptoms.

I can understand the use of stopping a period when you are in the "severe" category...but if you just want to be able to engage in kinky sex whenever you feel like it - that is not a sound reason to mess with nature, in my very humble opinion.

I also believe there must be a better way to cope with concerns like yours than just taking out the uterus or completley stopping a natural cycle. --- if only the medical profession would TRY.

And if you're like me, take a Mortrin, run a hot bath, and make your husband rub your back. =)

PS. I'm sorry about health struggles. More evidence in my opinion that women's true concerns are not taken seriously by the medical field.

Increasing metabolism and breast size sound like great side benefits to be able to get from BC. I would buy a pill just for that if it were for real (and safe). But if you don't have a period, how would you know if your BC failed? It also just doesn't sound healthy.

    Me too.

Yes because our society is male dominated. If I was suffering through anything close to what Megidoloan is experiencing, wanting to stop my periods might cross my mind. But for those of is in the normal range of things its just vanity. I look at it like this, natural processes occur for a reason and I will take nature over some manufactured drug any day of the week.

    Amen.

Instead of creating a pill that women take so they never get their period - why don't they make a pill that men can take that stops them from being insensitive ogres?

Yep. I'm not in politics so I don't have to pretend to be "in the middle" =D

      Shadow,

I thought the same thing. I am like, we have a cycle for a reason....its the bodies self cleansing ritual. You cant keep all of that inside and not cause issues.

the problem is that many women will not believe it until it is to late and the birth control company is getting sued for...um off the top of my head... ovarian cancer, ovary's exploding, death, blood clots, stroke....

like i said we do not know what will happen and yes these are a little extreme i know but still think about it....

I would stop my periods if I could - well, at least every other month. When it's my right ovary's turn to do her business - she's a royal bitch. I get serious cramps, sick (vomiting, fever, etc.). During my period the flow is extra heavy (usually at least 1x per hour). So, yeah, if I could have a period every other month I'd be happy with that. Not sure I'd want to get rid of it entirely.

I know I could go from one pill pack straight to the next to skip a period - I could try that. I just haven't
