Susan G. Komen to REVERSE Their Decision to Cut PP Funding!!

They claimed they saw an increase in donations over the past couple of days.  They claimed there was a clear policy rule that disqualified Planned Parenthood from grant money.

Now, they're going to restore funding the the organization.

What do you think?

If it's true - it will be hard to trust them again.

Like I said in my own article, I'm cynical and think this was just a ploy to get more donations for BOTH organizations. And we, the donating public, fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Both organizations saw an upsurge in donations because of the publicity because of this contrived controversy. And now they get to have "kiss and make up" donations too!

I do not donate money directly to either organization - I only participate in events that benefit both. But since the story broke, I haven't had an opportunity to do either.

I doubt it was a ploy...I don't see how that really benefits either organization in the long-term and these people make too much money to joke around with the long-term.

Additionally, you're dealing with right-wing zealots. You don't play tricks on them cause they may put a bullet in your head or a bomb in your office. Just sayin'....

It's not about long-term benefits -- those who choose to donate will now donate again because the two organizations "kissed and made up". In the short-term however, look at how many donations both organizations received during the break up -- an upsurge for BOTH, because of both the press coverage and the zealotry on both sides of the issue.

I don't believe it was a ploy, I believe it was an ideological mistake that cost one organization and now they are back peddaling. The upshot for PP is that it brought to light the FACT that they do provide cancer screenings for low income women ( or any woman that chooses to utilize their services). Hopefully many will also pay attention to the real numbers and other facts as well of what exactly PP does offer. Their services are invaluable to many single women, many families across this nation.

You make a very interesting observation, but no, I don't think it was a ploy cooked up to get more donations. It is common knowledge that the Southern Baptist Convention and Lifeway Publishers have had played a role in getting the Komen Foundation to stop funding Planned Parenthood.

I wonder how many of their big money corporation donors told them that they will not be renewing their contribution contract and are currently looking for a way to reverse their current contract with SGK?

I think it was all about the money that caused them to reverse their stand on supporting PP and they didn't expect the very vocal backlash from the public at large.

Hopefully the corporate donors will donate to the American Cancer Society or to Planned Parenthood.

But, now I have to say this probably was a blessing in disguise. More people are now aware of the attack on Planned Parenthood and are ready to take a stand defending them. Added to that more people are now convinced that the War on Women is not a myth but is very real. I guess we all owe a debt of gratitude to Karen Handel for bringing it all out in the open.

One thing that is interesting about the radical-extremist right (or left for that matter) is that they cannot fathom how other people do not agree with them. They realize their will is not done on a large scale, but they assume there is some force holding back what ultimately everyone else wants.

I have no doubt this change of heart has little to do with heart and a whole lot to do with dollar signs and your suggestion that big donors were pulling out is probably spot on.

Yes, SGK saw an increase in individual donors these past couple of days (a few wing nuts gave them $20 each for attacking those "baby killers"!), but I'm sure someone like Coca-Cola gave them a call and gave them a proverbial "WTF!?"

But, now I have to say this probably was a blessing in disguise. More people are now aware of the attack on Planned Parenthood and are ready to take a stand defending them. Added to that more people are now convinced that the War on Women is not a myth but is very real.

Agree, Stevie. The response from the public was beautiful to witness.

Eagleamerican - You're entitled to your opinion. The tragedy for human life, in my opinion, is ignorance which there is an awful lot of. So glad Planned Parenthood exists and that they provide abortions to the women who need them. More importantly, that they are there to educate women on how to protect their health and provide them invaluable information on how to seek necessary health care when needed.

Hooray Planned Parenthood!!

The SGK will try to defund PP when no one is looking.

This is just a PR move the people who pushed for and were successful for having the defunding in the first place are still working at SKG and their real agenda has not changed.

If SGK was only about breast cancer then they would not have defunded PP to begin with so I'm going to remain very leary about their organization.

Well, Planned Parenthood has always had the right-wing zealots on their backs. But SGK had a flawless reputation until now.

Yes, this rule about not giving funds to companies under investigation by the government was recently created (some speculate to placate extreme right wing donors to SGK who hate PP) but there are other organizations that SGK gives funds to who are under investigation -- Bank of America, for example.

I think they realized they were shooting themselves in the foot. Sure, their donations may have gone up short-term, but a charitable organization cannot survive bad press long-term. Pressure from the public must have made them realize that.
